On 16 March 2010, the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) launched revised codes for broadcast advertisements and non-broadcast advertising (the codes).
The revised codes follow a consultation launched by CAP and BCAP in March 2009 on revisions to the codes intended to keep them up to date and fit for purpose.
The revised codes are available online:
- The BCAP Code: The UK Code of Broadcast Advertising (see chapter 14 for specific material on financial products, services and investments).
- The CAP Code: The UK Code of Non-Broadcast Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing (see chapter 14 for specific material on financial products).
BCAP has also published an overview of the revisions made to the codes. No significant changes appear to have been made to the material in the codes currently in force which specifically relates to financial services.
The revised codes will come into force on 1 September 2010.
