Jersey removed from Portugal’s blacklist

Jersey has been removed from Portugal’s blacklist, due to “transparency and cooperation”.

Blacklists are compiled to exclude counties or bodies which are deemed uncooperative in fighting fraudulent, illegal or criminal activity.

The Portuguese Minister of Finance, Mario Centeno, signed a degree at the end of 2016 to take Jersey off their list.

It’s partly due to the territories entering a Tax Information Exchange Agreement in 2011.

External relations Minister, Sir Philip Bailhache, has been working with the Portuguese Embassy in London as well as the Minister of Finance in Lisbon to make the move.

He says it will “encourage business links between Jersey and Portugal”.
