JERSEY AND GERMAN REGISTRIES SHARE INTERNATIONAL AWARD

The Jersey Companies Registry has been recognised internationally for work it has undertaken in collaboration with an equivalent registry in Germany.

The International Association of Commercial Administrators (“IACA”) has given the Jersey Registry, jointly with Germany, a Merit Award for a pilot project designed to improve the electronic transfer of publically available data between registries

Julian Lamb, the Director of the Jersey Registry, which is part of the Jersey Financial Services Commission (“JFSC”), received the award while attending the IACA Conference in Virginia, United States as vice-chair of its International Section.

The submission which won the Award outlined the use of a European registry pilot project designed to enable registries to receive information in real time via an electronic messaging system. Representatives from the Registry in Jersey worked with their counterparts in the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine Westphalia in Germany to demonstrate that registry to registry connection is feasible.

The objective is to create a system within the European Union and wider Europe to make it easier to transfer information which is already in the public domain to other registries when it is requested, taking into account that organisations will have different IT hardware, computer systems and security.

Julian Lamb commented:

‘This award is given to the winning organisations who demonstrate innovative change to increase their efficiency, including new technology, which is of benefit to registry users. It is important in demonstrating that Jersey is able to work with international colleagues in developing easier ways of working together. It further cements the Memorandum of Understanding with the Germany Ministry of Justice which the JFSC signed in 2010.’

IACA is a North American association whose membership comprises the official business registries of the US, Canada and other international jurisdictions. It is the only registry forum which sets standards and shares system innovations with regard to secure transactions, which is important while Jersey develops the new Security Interests Register (SIR), Julian Lamb added:

‘It is particularly encouraging that the Award is international in scope and is given by our peer group of registry professionals. Recognition from IACA therefore helps to raise our status and credentials more widely amongst our European neighbours which is a valuable objective as we seek to build links with other registry organisations and regulatory bodies worldwide.’
