JFSC director-general John Harris – JERSEY’S likely response to a request for help in an investigation involving alleged sanctions-busting by an Iranian bank said to have links to terrorism features in secret US documents released by Wikileaks. The controversial website run by Julian Assange this week released the secret communication from the US Embassy in London sent to Washington in January 2009.
Among other places, the leaked documents were published on the Daily Telegraph website.
The classified communication related to Assa Ltd, a Jersey company with a registered office at 6 Britannia Place in St Helier.
John Harris, head of the Jersey Financial Services Commission, said he could not confirm or deny whether the Island was later asked to assist an investigation of Assa’s activities.
