Australian Banker jailed over $1m fraud – A bank employee with a “commitment to dishonesty”, who ripped his employers off by more than $1 million, will spend the next two and half years behind bars. This morning Jason Paul Gabriel, 40, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane District Court to one charge of stealing as a servant and one charge of committing fraud as an employee while employed at Suncorp Metway.
He also pleaded guilty to a further charge of committing fraud as an employee when he worked for St George Bank.
Crown prosecutor David Nardone told the court Gabriel took just over $600,000 from Suncorp Metway where he was employed as manager of equipment finance between January 2005 and April 2007.
