Bulgarian mobsters ‘use island to launder money’
INTERPOL-WANTED Bulgarian mobsters have been using Guernsey to further their criminal activity, a news website based in the eastern European country has claimed.
And Guernsey Border Agency officials yesterday issued a short statement saying: ‘We are aware of the reports, we are looking into them.’
Bulgarian website novinite.com said convicted gansters Angel Hristov and Plamen Galev – known as the Galevi brothers – have laundered ‘millions of dollars’ through the island.
It also claimed that Guernsey was ‘a hotspot for criminals all over the world, including Bulgaria, as local laws make it very difficult to prove the offence’.
The pair vanished in May, days after the Bulgarian supreme appellate court sentenced them for organised crime, racketeering and extortion
